Accelerating Innovations

The sessions conducted under this theme set the pace for the whole conference with objectives around the harmonization of different resources and multi-sector players to achieve sustainable health in the famed Fourth Industrial Revolution. Synergy among medical practitioners, technologists, social scientists and even artists was stressed. Speakers highlighted the importance of hi-tech innovations such as virtual reality, bioinformatics, machine learning and robotics which are new age technologies. They, however, also placed emphasis on simple innovations that are sustainable in resource-limited settings and thereby scalable in the long run. The panel sessions covered topics such as block chain, pharmaceuticals, global digital health, computational biology, agriculture for health, intellectual property law and the framework for digital health in Uganda, among others.

They were tasked with advising on which technologies would be most transformative for Uganda and East Africa and what the challenges of embracing the 4IR will be for Uganda.
