Improving quality of care and management of HIV through and electronic based Community Drug Distribution Point app

This is a twenty-four-month project which is to be undertaken in the districts of Kampala, Wakiso, as well as of Arua in Uganda. The aim of the project is to improve the quality of care and safety for people living with HIV (PLHIV) through a versatile electronic platform linked to Community Drug Distribution Points (CDDP) in the three districts. To our knowledge, this will be the first electronic real-time data capturing application for Community-based Antiretroviral Therapy Distribution (CBAD) in Uganda and will, therefore, be a template for other data aspects of the CBAD.

As a result of the World Health Organization’s Test and Treat policy to have every person who tests positive for Human Immuno-deficiency virus (HIV) immediately commence treatment, more PLHIVs in Uganda will be started on Anti-Retroviral Treatment (ART) before they are down with co-infections. This is to mitigate longer client waiting hours as the demand for HIV care has begun to overstretch the medical services available at facilities.
